Investing in New Equipment at Recycling Facility

As a leading waste management and skip hire company in Slough, Lanz Group invests heavily in its recycling facility and equipment. Committed to green policies and dedicated to sending as little waste as possible to landfill, we make a real effort to make sure that we do as much as we can to be effective caretakers of the environment while running an efficient company. To that end, we were excited recently to take delivery of a new Liebherr LH 22M industrial wheeled excavator.

Customised Equipment for Our Recycling Facility

Recycling facility equipment in Colnbrook, Slough

As our recycling, skip hire and tipper hire business continues to grow, we now operate three similar wheeled excavator machines at our Colnbrook recycling facility. To keep up with increasing volumes of wastes coming into our recycling facility, all our machines are fitted with high-lift cabs. These special cabs enable the machines to load large articulated vehicles. We invest in the right equipment for all of our work and we make sure that these recycling facility machines come fitted with Dehaco sorting grabs which have proven to be versatile and hard-wearing.

Waste Recycling Reporting

Did you know that our sorting and recycling facility enables us to provide our customers with detailed waste reports? These waste and recycling reports highlight waste type percentages and weights. This waste management reporting system helps our customers know exactly how much of their rubbish is recycled and how much is sent to landfill. (Learn more about our waste management services.)

Lanz Group Commits to Supporting Berkshire Causes

As a family business, Lanz Group has called Berkshire home for more than 70 years. What began as a simple business idea in 1943 has grown into a modern waste management firm serving clients across Berkshire and up and down the Thames Valley. Lanz Group is proud of its local roots and has a deep sense of gratitude to its local community for the support it has shown the company and its employees over the decades. As a way to say thanks to the people and community of Berkshire, we have made a three-year commitment to support the Berkshire Community Foundation.

In Berkshire, for Berkshire

Lanz Group is based in Berkshire

From our offices in Colnbrook, Slough, we have seen Berkshire grow in many ways. As our own business grew from a single lorry to an extensive fleet of waste management and skip hire vehicles, it is clear that the local people and community around us have been integral to our success. Berkshire businesses, local authorities, home owners and more are our customers – as well as many of the same across the Thames Valley. Many of our wonderful staff call Berkshire home. This county has a special place in our history and our hearts.

While our customer-base has certainly extended beyond Berkshire, we wanted to express our support for the community in a direct, meaningful way. We wanted to give back to the community that has helped us so much over the years. To that end, we are pleased to announce that we forged a three-year commitment to financially support the Berkshire Community Foundation.

About the Berkshire Community Foundation

Berkshire Community FoundationThe Berkshire Community Foundation was started in 1985 as an effort by local people to pool their resources so as to help their neighbours. The foundation, previously known as the Berkshire Community Trust, was started with a gift of £500.00.

Since those early days, the foundation has blossomed into a well-managed trust of £7.6 million. In the 2013/2014 financial year, the charity awarded grants of more than £730,000 to 197 groups and 23 individuals. The grant recipients were all local, Berkshire-based grassroots organisations and efforts.

We look forward to giving back to Berkshire and are excited about the wonderful things we will support together in partnership with the Berkshire Community Foundation.

OHSAS 18001: Passed Stage 1

We are very pleased and proud to announce that Lanz Group has  successfully passed Stage 1 in our pursuit of OHSAS 18001 certification. This advanced and rigorous certification process is demonstrative of our commitment to and focus on occupational health and safety management.

OHSAS 18001

Lanz Group is pursuing OHSAS 18001 certification

The OHSAS 18001 process reviews our management system processes and documentation, ensuring that, as a leading waste management company serving the Thames Valley, were are in step with the strict standards of the Occupational Health and Safety Assessment Series.

The Stage 1 review investigates the following safety protocols and systems:

  • How effective our systems are in identifying hazards
  • The manner in which we have assessed the associated risks
  • How we plan the necessary control measures and improvement objectives together with the associated management programmes

The Stage 1 for OHSAS 18001 process also aims to identify any weakness or omissions in our system that may have to be addressed and amended.

When asked about the amount of effort and energy that goes into OHSAS certification, Lanz Group’s Managing Director, Doug Hepsworth, offered the following:

“Proper health and safety in the work place – especially in the waste management industry – requires a lot of time and resources. At Lanz Group, we are dedicated to the highest safety standards. We are ready, willing and eager to do what it takes to achieve OHSAS 18001 certification.”

Progressing Towards OHSAS 18001: Stage 2

As spring rolls into summer, we will continue to prepare for the Stage 2 audit. Stage 2 is the final step of the process. Our current aim is to successfully complete the audit process and achieve full accreditation for OHSAS 18001 later this year.

More information about OHSAS 18001 is available at the following:

CLOCS: Focused on Construction Logistics and Cyclist Safety

Deeply committed to the safety not only of it own drivers and staff, Lanz Group takes the safety of other drivers, cyclists and pedestrians on the road very seriously. To that end, our leading waste management company has been diligently working on a new health and safety project called CLOCS.

CLOCS: Construction Logistics and Cyclist Safety

CLOCS: Construction Logistics and Cyclist SafetyCLOCS is an acronym Construction Logistics and Cyclist Safety. The safety system emphasises looking out for vulnerable road users. CLOCS aims to achieve a visionary change in the way the construction industry manages work-related road risk. This is being achieved through three industry-led avenues:

  • Improving vehicle safety through design and manufacture of safer new vehicles and fitment of appropriate safety equipment to existing vehicles;
  • Address the safety imbalance in the construction industry through ensuring road safety is considered as important as on-site health and safety;
  • Encouraging the wider adoption of best practice across the construction logistics industry.

This standard has been developed for the construction logistics industry managing work-related road risk. This programme also represents a united response to road safety across the industry and should install greater social responsibility with an aim to save lives.

More information about CLOCS is online at http://www.clocs.org.uk.

Wishing Bob Well in Retirement!

Bob Leach

As 2014 came to a close, so arrived an end of an era at Lanz Group, a leading provider of skip hire and waste management services across the Thames Valley. With much gratitude for his many, many efforts over the years, with all the best wishes for the future and with some sadness at seeing him go, we all wished Bob Leach a very happy retirement.

The Friendly Face of Lanz Group

For the customers and vendors at Lanz Group, Bob Leach was an ever-present, friendly and welcoming face. His warm personality and sense of humour was how he helped ensure our customers received the top quality of service for which we are known.

Bob joined Lanz Group in 2000, serving as a Transport and General Manager. His skills and experience served well in management at Lanz Group, assisting Doug Hepsworth in the daily running for many years.

In wishing Bob the very best for retirement, the Managing Director of Lanz Group, Doug Hepsworth, shared his thoughts about Bob’s many efforts on behalf of the family business:

“It was a privilege and an absolute pleasure to have worked alongside Bob. His support whenever and wherever needed was always undertaken with a conscientious and exemplary effort. He was a key member of the team and will be greatly missed. On behalf of everyone here at Lanz Group, we extend our appreciation for his many years of dedicated service and significant contributions. We would like to welcome on board three new members of staff who joined the team at Lanz Group in the previous few months. We are delighted to share the news of our expanding team, all of whom are true professionals, committed to delivering quality service and attention to detail for which our company is known. We welcome Martin Quelch, Jack Clements, and Helen Jones.

Martin Quelch

Martin Quelch joined us in July 2014 in the role as Transport Manager. He has been actively involved in the Transport Industry for the last ten years.  As his previous post within the waste industry, his considerable experience and knowledge will help Lanz Group build our new waste wheeler service.

Jack Clements

Jack Clements joined us in September 2014 from Heathside Sixth Form College. Jack’s enthusiasm to learn our business is infectious! He is learning the business from the ground up: from answering the phones, riding along with our professional drivers and to joining members of our sales team on client visit to get a feel for what we are trying to achieve and how we do it.

Helen Jones

Our newest team member is Helen Jones. Helen joined us in October 2014 to run our weighbridge in our Materials Recycling Facility (MRF). Helen brings a wealth of knowledge to Lanz Group, having run a weighbridge at a landfill site for six years.

Supporting The Matt Hampson Foundation

Committed to giving back to our community, Lanz Group attended the GRS/Lafarge Fund Raising Dinner on Wednesday 15th October to support The Matt Hampson Foundation.

About the Matt Hampson Foundation

Matt Hampson FoundationMatt was an up and coming rugby player who had a terrible injury in 2005 during an England Under 21 rugby training session. Paralysed from the neck down and breathing via the aid of a ventilator, it is testament to him that he decided to set up the Foundation so that others who have suffered similar catastrophic injuries through sport can receive support and assistance.

Our very good friends at GRS Roadstone extended us an invitation to attend and support The Matt Hampson Foundation. We felt extremely honored to attend and to be of some assistance.
